Moments ago, Rockstar debuted the first ever video of GTA V’s multiplayer. The reaction from fans on numerous blogs has been of awe and excitement. The trailer shows a glimpse of what will no doubt become an online reinvention of the series, and a huge makeover from GTA IV’s multiplayer. The official Rockstar description of the online mode reads as follows.

“Grand Theft Auto Online is a dynamic and persistent online world for 16 players that begins by sharing gameplay features, geography and mechanics with Grand Theft Auto V, but will continue to expand and evolve after its launch with new content created by Rockstar Games and the Grand Theft Auto community. GTA V Delayed, For Good Reason; September 17th Release Date Official

The long awaited date for GTA V’s release has now been released. Rockstar stated today that the latest entry of the Grand Theft Auto series will be coming to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17th of this year. Originally, the game had been slated for a “Spring 2013”, with rumors pointing to a March release. However, Rockstar has apologized in today’s statement for pushing the game back by six months. The announcement read:

“We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”

It is refreshing to see a developer concerned with making their project perfectly crafted before releasing it on shelves to the consumer. Rockstar is known as a company that stands on its quality, as well as quantity, and I have no doubt that GTA V will be their boldest title yet. There is still no word on either a PC or Wii U version at this time, but rest assured, Gamers Xtreme will follow closely. Everything We Know About GTA V So Far

Exciting news for GTA fans today, as Rockstar has released a slew of information regarding the upcoming GTA V. The biggest shock to most fans is that for the first time ever in GTA history, Grand Theft Auto 5 will be focused on three different main characters. Players are free to switch between characters at any time when not on a mission. When on a mission however, players are given options to switch at specific points. Additionally, below we have the details of all three characters, and I must say their backgrounds are colorful to say the least.

The first character, Michael, is a middle-age bank robber living at a wealthy estate with a treacherous wife. He also has a spoiled teenage daughter and son. There is a catch however and that is he is in the witness protection program. The problem is his cash flow has run out due to his wife’s excessive spending, so he inevitably returns to a life of crime. Trevor, the second character, is a drug addict, ex-military pilot who is homicidal. He lives in the rural desert region outside of Los Santos, which is full of truckers and bikers. Ironically enough, he is an old friend of Michael’s, and eventually joins up with him for another heist. The last character is Franklin. Franklin is a young individual working as a repo man for a car dealership. He lives and wants to move up in the world. He comes in contact with Michael after targeting him for a hustle.

Additionally, cars will handle more like a “racing game” and “realistic” according to Rockstar. Houser explained that this three character system will add more diversity to the enormous locale. “That contrast between three different experiences, geographies, and vibes to everything should really be strong, and I think it’s something that gives the game a unique feeling when you’re visiting these people’s lives and seeing what they do.” Describing the setting, art director Aaron Garbut stated it was bigger than San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Red Dead Redemption combined. It’s so vast that you can even don scuba gear and explore its ocean floor. Rockstar felt like they had only scratched the surface of what the city had to offer in games like San Andreas and Midnight Club: Los Angeles and it wanted to create a true LA experience. “We felt we hadn’t done that with San Andreas – which was these very small, sketchlike cities,” Houser explained.

The contrast between the desert and rural Southern California, the inland from LA and just a bit north, compared to LA, gives you a great landscape of various environments. Each area has different vibes culturally as much as geographically. Houser also confirmed that familiar faces from GTA 4 and Episodes From Liberty City will be making an appearance. Lastly, minute details such as the ability to give the finger to people, will result in different reactions from different citizens. Some thug types may decide to fight you for this, while soccer moms will have a very different response. Also, multiplayer was confirmed, however Rockstar is keeping quiet on the details of that for now. There are strong rumors for some type of co-op experience, which would make sense with the three protagonist storyline.
