Grand Theft Auto V Requires Some Big Room on Your HDD

Moments ago, Rockstar confirmed that GTA V will indeed be shipping for the Xbox 360 on two discs, as we had already expected. However the game will also require a mandatory installation on the 360 and PS3 as well. This is a rare thing for a Microsoft platform, as mandatory installations are something PlayStation 3 gamers are more accustom to, not Xbox gamers. The reported space the game will need on your 360 or PS3 will be a whopping 8GB! This is a pretty aggressive amount given that most gamers have had their systems 6-8 years now depending on the console. With that being said, most players will probably have to make some room on their HDD’s before this September when GTA V is due out.

A Rockstar spokesperson released the following statement describing the logistics of this process “Grand Theft Auto V is the largest and most ambitious game we have yet created, and takes full advantage of every ounce of processing power available in the current generation of consoles,” said Rockstar in a Q&A published this afternoon. In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 systems. For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs.”

“The install will require an Xbox 360 HDD or an external 16GB USB drive with at least 8GB of free space. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance,” Rockstar adds. The PlayStation 3 version, meanwhile, ships on one disc and will install roughly 8GB of content “as soon as you insert the game”. “The install is roughly 8GB, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete.”

GTA 5 launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17, 2013.
