Nintendo Announces Wii Price Drop

In preparation for Nintendo’s new console release, the company has decided it would be good business to boost sales for the current console at a very economical price point. The company announced today that it will be selling a new Wii system bundle that retails for just $129.99, which includes a black Wii console as well as Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on one disc! This new bundle will be available across stores nationwide by October 28th. This bundle will be replacing the current existing $149 black hardware bundle that includes New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In essence, Nintendo has slashed the price of their most lucrative system by $20 and in the process, bundled their two highest selling games for the Wii all on one disc for free. Business wise, it is very respectable especially coming into the Holiday season.

This is the third official US price drop in the Wii’s six years on the market. Nintendo launched the system in November of 2006 at a price of $249. That price remained for three years. Nintendo then dropped it to $199 in September of 2009. The price was phenomenal value at that time and sold extremely well. After that, Nintendo again called for an official drop in May of last year to $149.99. Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U, will launch November 18 in two models. The “budget friendly” of the two bundles will sell for $299, while the $349 deluxe package will include more memory and Nintendo Land.
